The EA Sports NHL 13 cover vote has reached the final round, and Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne is one of the final two standing after the voting started with a 32-player bracket. Rinne will face-off against Flyers forward Claude Giroux, who bested Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin.
Rinne beat Islanders forward John Tavares in the ‘Final Four’, if you will, to continue his dominance of the Big Apple. In the ‘Elite Eight’, Rinne edged Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Also, Rinne beat Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp in the Round of 16.
Voting, which is unlimited by the way, begins today and runs through June 4th. The winner will not be announced until the NHL Awards Show in Las Vegas on June 20th.
If Rinne happens to win the cover vote, he will be the first goaltender since John Vanbiesbrouck in 1996 (NHL 97) to don the cover for the EA Sports’ NHL franchise (in North America).
Rinne, who has always been a fan of the game, told Smashville 24/7 last month that it’d be an honor to be voted on to the NHL 13 cover.
