NHL cancels games through Dec. 30

The National Hockey League announced today that all games through December 30th have been cancelled. For the Predators, that means the following games have been affected:

December 15 vs. Detroit
December 18 vs. Tampa Bay
December 20 at Carolina
December 22 at Tampa Bay
December 23 at Florida
December 26 at Chicago
December 27 vs. Philadelphia
December 29 vs. Washington

This news does not come as a surprise, but there is one positive out of this, which is that the NHL did not extend the cancellations into January. Despite the lockout’s current grim look, the NHL and NHLPA are scheduled to meet again this week in an attempt to get a deal done to save the season.

For comparison, the 1994-95 NHL lockout ended on Jan. 11, 1995 and the league was able to squeeze in a 48-game schedule and postseason. If a new CBA can be reached by the New Year, look for a similar schedule to salvage the 2012-13 season. A season less than 48 games would be difficult to be considered legitimate.
