The National Hockey League announced today that all games through January 14th have been cancelled. For the Predators, that means the following games have been affected:
December 31 at Dallas
January 2 at Phoenix
January 4 at Detroit
January 5 at Minnesota
January 8 vs. Chicago
January 11 at St. Louis
January 12 vs. Columbus
The 1994-95 NHL lockout ended on Jan. 11, 1995 and the league was able to squeeze in a 48-game schedule and postseason. That season began nine days after an agreement was made.
In this instance, the NHL did not set a drop-dead date to reach a new CBA. However, between the way these cancellations have gone this fall and using the 1994-95 season as an example, a new CBA needs to be reached by the first week of January. It is expected that the next cancellation will wipe out the rest of the 2012-13 season.
