McGrattan clears waivers

Yesterday the Predators placed forward Brian McGrattan on waivers. Today the 31-year-old enforcer cleared waivers. Earlier this month McGrattan was assigned to Milwaukee on a two-week conditioning assignment. In six AHL games, McGrattan has four penalty minutes and zero points. Now that he has cleared waivers, he has officially been assigned to Milwaukee.

In the span of a full calendar year, from Jan. 19, 2012 to Jan. 21, 2013, McGrattan appeared in just three games for the Predators. This season he played in only two games, the first two of the season, seeing only 6:17 of average ice time. Waiver pickup Richard Clune has filled the energy role nicely and has seemingly pushed McGrattan out of the lineup and ultimately to the AHL.

You have to wonder if we’ve seen the last of McGrattan in Nashville. As long as Clune stays healthy there’s really no place on the roster for McGrattan, who was re-signed by the Predators last July to a one-year, $600,000 contract.
