There are fan giveaways, and then there is the Nashville Predators’ fan promotion for Friday.
Most giveaways – magnet schedules, rally towels, etc. – are repetitive from season-to-season. But the Predators went outside the box for this giveaway.
The first 4,000 kids, ages 12 and under, to arrive to Bridgestone Arena for Friday’s game against Edmonton will receive a Hal Gill growth chart – a life-size, 6’7” poster of the Predators defenseman.
After Thursday’s practice, fellow defenseman Kevin Klein was asked if he had about the promotion. He started to chuckle and asked, “No, what is that?” When told it’s a life-size poster of his teammate for the kids in attendance for Friday’s game, Klein couldn’t control his laughter.
“Oh my goodness,” he said.
“Well most people come up short of that, so they could’ve made a 5-foot tall one to make everyone feel good about themselves. Not a lot of 6-foot-3 and beyond will be marked down but it’ll be good for the kids.”
When asked whether he’s envious of the growth chart and if he’d want one of his own, Klein said, “Yeah, it’d be funny. It’s one of those things where you could look back – I mean, Hal probably hasn’t had a growth chart in his career so it’d be something that goes along with all of the hockey things he’s acquired his whole life.”
At the end of the interview, Klein kept laughing.
“Oh my goodness. Growth chart? I’m going to have to give him a hard time about that.”
