2012-13 in review:
Two seasons after just missing the cut for the 2010-11 opening night roster, Taylor Beck arrived in the NHL last March. He was one of a handful of Predators who took advantage of the opportunity given to them due to the vast amount of injuries. In fact, Beck proved he belongs in an NHL lineup sooner rather than later.

Beck tallied three goals and seven points in 16 games after being called up from Milwaukee. He was a fixture on the team’s top line, mostly skating alongside veteran David Legwand. Beck was one of the Predators’ better forwards over those final five weeks, showing a shooter’s mentality and generating more offense than some other late-season call-ups.

Before getting the call to Music City, Beck recorded 41 points in 50 games and was Milwaukee’s leading point-getter despite the NHL promotion.

Burning question for 2013-14: Will Beck have to prove himself all over again?
While it could be argued Beck earned a spot on this year’s roster with a solid first impression, the 22-year-old forward has more work to do this month if he wants to crack the opening night lineup in October.

With the Predators signing four new forwards this off-season, along with acquiring Filip Forsberg last April, Beck’s role in Nashville is in limbo as training camp begins. Forsberg isn’t guaranteed a roster spot, as the Predators may decide the 19-year-old needs AHL seasoning. If not, it will be tough for Beck to see time in Nashville early on unless a trade or injury occurs.

That uncertainty should be a motivating factor for Beck, who is entering the final year of his entry-level contract. He showed last year he belongs in the NHL. However, the numbers game may end up sending him to Milwaukee since he wouldn’t be exposed to waivers.

“I got a great taste of the NHL last year and it just made me hungrier over the summer,” Beck said. “I’m going to absolutely do everything I can to make this team. I don’t feel I have to prove anything. I just have to show them everything I have.”
