Preds swept in doubleheader

In a unique day-night doubleheader in Sunrise, Fla., the Nashville Predators lost both games to the Florida Panthers.

After leading 3-1 through 20 minutes in the matinee tilt, the Panthers scored five unanswered goals to win 6-3. Kevin Henderson, Filip Forsberg and Shea Weber were the goal-scorers in Game 1, while Colin Wilson notched two assists. Goaltender Marek Mazanec gave up three goals on 21 shots through two periods, while Scott Darling surrendered three goals on 20 shots in the third. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Predators held a 2-1 lead after two periods but could not hold on. Florida tied the game at 2-2 midway through the third before Tomas Fleischmann netted the overtime winner with 47 seconds left in the extra frame. Craig Smith and Gabriel Bourque were the Predators’ goal-scorers in the 3-2 loss. Carter Hutton played the entire game and gave up the three goals on 27 shots. Defenseman Seth Jones led all Preds in ice time with 25:45 in his first NHL preseason contest. He finished the game with a minus-1 rating.

The Predators will continue training camp in Florida this week, with a focus on team-building activities. They will play against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night before returning to Nashville, where they’ll resume on-ice practices on Saturday.
