Top five goals from Preds/Wings rivalry

The Nashville Predators have had a lot of good, memorable games with the Detroit Red Wings over the past 15 years. Detroit was Nashville’s biggest rival ever since coming into the league before realignment took Detroit to the Eastern Conference starting this season.

Even though the Predators and Red Wings aren’t Central Division rivals anymore, there still have been a lot of memorable moments between the two teams.

5. Peter Forsberg scores first goal as a Predator, February 24, 2007

Hockey legend Peter Forsberg scored his first goal as a member of the Nashville Predators against the Red Wings in overtime. Paul Kariya made a gorgeous backhand pass through traffic that found its way to Forsberg right in front of the net, and he was able to convert to give the Predators a 4-3 win.

4. Nick Lidstrom scores from center ice, April 20, 2008

In Game 6 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008, Nick Lidstrom fired what appeared to be a harmless shot from center ice on Nashville goaltender Dan Ellis. However, that puck took a wicked bounce and was able to beat Dan Ellis for a Detroit shorthanded goal that led to a 3-0 series clenching victory over the Predators.

3. Pavel Datsyuk skates through entire Preds team for sensational game-tying goal, February 19, 2013

Pavel Datsyuk displayed his incredible raw talent, skating literally past all five skaters on the ice for the Predators and scoring a beautiful goal against Pekka Rinne. This goal will be on Datsyuk’s highlight tapes for the rest of his life. Nashville ended up winning the game in overtime on a Shea Weber goal, however this beauty of a goal by Datsyuk allowed the Red Wings to escape Nashville with a point.

2. David Legwand scores game-winning Game 5 goal to eliminate Detroit, April 20, 2012

In a series where the Predators pretty much dominated, the first ever draft pick by the Nashville Predators got the game-winning goal in Game 5 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against his hometown team to send the Predators to the second round of the playoffs for just the second time in franchise history. Exactly four years after the Predators had been eliminated on home ice by the Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs, the Predators turned the tables and eliminated Detroit at Bridgestone Arena.

1. Pavel Datsyuk makes Tomas Vokoun look silly in the shootout, March 21, 2006

Yes, it’s a shootout goal, but it was so unbelievable that it had to earn the number one spot. This goal by Pavel Datsyuk on Tomas Vokoun has been talked about for years, along with a similar goal Datsyuk scored on Marty Turco. Datsyuk’s incredible hands and creativity were on full display with this goal.
